Whether your traveling internationally or regionally, Louisiana airports have you covered

Two Louisiana airports are continuing to raise the bar and are giving flyers the best travel experience with their upgrades and recognition.

With summer travel on the horizon, the Lafayette Regional Airport recently announced the opening of a new gate. And Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport announced its overall customer satisfaction award.

2022 was a milestone for Lafayette Regional Airport, with The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development recognizing it as the Commercial Service Airport of the Year in Louisiana. In early 2022, Lafayette Regional Airport opened its new terminal, and recently the airport announced on Facebook a fifth gate opened to serve passengers.

While summer is slowly approaching, so are those summer break trips.

"For the first time in its 41-year history, passengers departing from and arriving at Lafayette Regional Airport will have a fifth gate to serve them. The additional gate has been a part of the new terminal project since the Lafayette Airport Commission created plans for the New LFT Terminal."

To make room for the fifth gate, the former terminal building had to be removed before the new gateway platform was created. American Airlines will be the main user of Gate 5, according to a Facebook post.

Alternatively, for travelers considering an international summer trip, driving to Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) might be worth it. The airport received a top award for best airport in North America by size and region according to a news release.

MSY is one of only three airports in North America to win Best Airport recognition among those serving 5 million to 15 million passengers a year. This award recognizes airports with the top 20% overall satisfaction score by size and region at departure, as determined by American Society for Quality’s Departures and Arrivals Surveys of customers.

The airport is filled with restaurants and bars that represent local favorites in New Orleans, including Lucky Dogs, Cafe Du Monde, Emeril’s Table and Leah’s Kitchen.

According to a news release, MSY was recognized as the airport with the best overall concessions program in the medium and small airports division at the 19th annual Airport Experience Conference. The honor is awarded to an airport that excels in providing an array of food options, retail and services program that satisfies the needs and tastes of various travelers.
