The town of Shallotte has quickly become a commercial mecca in Brunswick County, but despite its rapid economic development, the town has several commercial spaces that sit vacant.

When the Coastal Walk Marketplace opened in Shallotte in 2020, it quickly attracted businesses and restaurants to the town. Now, it's one of the town’s busiest shopping centers, boasting an Ulta Beauty, Starbucks, Hobby Lobby, Ross, Marshall’s, Pet Smart and, most recently, a Five Guys.

Located in the middle of Brunswick County with busy U.S. 17 running through the town, Shallotte has become a pinnacle for commercial development, boasting several shopping centers, restaurants and big box stores. There are more than 610 businesses within the town’s 28 square-miles.

Here are a few spaces that currently sit empty in the growing town.

4690 East Coast Lane

Since the popular Chance's Steak and Sea restaurant closed in April of this year, its former home at 4690 East Coast Lane in Shallotte has sat empty.

The restaurant's owner, David Chance, cited the difficult labor market as one of the reasons for the closure. Chance has operated a restaurant at the site, originally a Golden Corral, since 2012.

According to a real estate listing, the building offers 7,900 square feet of retail space just off U.S. 17. The building was renovated in 2020. According to the listing, the space is currently poised for a restaurant to move in, but could also function as a doctor's office, car lot or other retail space.

National retailers were among the first tenants at Shallotte's Coastal Walk Marketplace shopping center, which sits on 25 acres at the corner of Main Street and Smith Avenue.

Still, some spaces in the shopping center remain empty awaiting tenants. According to a real estate listing, 13 retail spaces are available for rent in the shopping center. The spaces range from 1,500 square feet to 4,000 square feet.

5054 North Main St.

The 3,949-square-foot building at 5054 N Main St. in Shallotte previously operated as a Pizza Hut. According to a real estate listing, the building sits on a 0.69-acre lot and is currently available for purchase.

The single-tenant site is located along the main business corridor in Shallotte and listed for $510,000.
