Whippets defeat Plainfield

Apr. 25—CENTRAL VILLAGE — Analise Escarraman struck out 13 batters and also had two hits, including a triple, with three RBI as Windham defeated Plainfield, 14- 4, in Saturday's Eastern Connecticut Conference Division III softball action.

Alyssa Lebiszczak went 2-for-2, scored four runs and walked three times while Aniya Jenkins and Alyssa Figueroa each had two hits for the Whips ( 6- 4 overall, 1- 3 league), who scored seven runs in the top of the third to open up a 9- 1 lead.

Hannah Irons (2 hits) homered for the Panthers (2-4, 1-2).

In other games. ... Rylee Benway ( 2 hits, 2 RBI) and Loretta Svedarsky (2 hits, run, RBI) led the offense for Lyman Memorial in a 10-6 ECC Division III loss at Stonington.

Kassidy LaTour had two hits, two runs and an RBI for the Bulldogs (6-2 overall, 2-1 league), who scored twice in the top of the sixth to take a 6- 5 lead.

Carli LoPresto ( 3 hits) gave the Bears (6-2, 4-0) the lead for good with a 2-run in a 5- run bottom of the sixth.

BASEBALL

Jack Valliere ( 2 hits) had two doubles and drove in three runs for Windham in a 13-10 ECC Division III loss to Plainfield in Willimantic.

Elvin Alonso also had two hits with two runs scored and three RBI while Tyler Walter added two hits, scored two runs and had an RBI for the Whips ( 3- 7 overall, 0- 4 league), who scored five times in the bottom of the seventh.

FRIDAY'S GAMES SOFTBALL Coventry had its 7- game winning streak snapped with a 2- 1 North Central Connecticut Conference loss at Ellington.

Remmy Casida hit a solo home run in the top of the sixth for the Patriots ( 7- 2 overall, 6- 1 league). Sara Miller and Lily Rand each singled and Elizabeth Mitchell struck out 11 batters, walked none and allowed eight hits.

Sydney Matz gave the Knights ( 6- 1, 5- 0) a 2- 0 lead in the bottom of the third with a 2- run home run. Cameron Fisher spun a 3- hitter in the circle with 14 strikeouts and no walks.

In Hebron, Sophie Garner-MacKinnon, who is bound for Duke University in the fall, fired a 1- hitter with 14 strikeouts and no walks while Hall (6-1) scored single runs in the first, fourth and sixth innings to edge RHAM, 3-1, in a Central Connecticut Conference inter- division game in Hebron.

Abigail Pace singled for the Raptors ( 6- 2). Hadley Marchand struck out 14 batters, walked two and allowed six hits and two earned runs.

BASEBALL

Aidan Hecht scored on an error in the bottom of the seventh inning as Coventry won for the second consecutive day in walk- off fashion for a 3- 2 NCCC victory over Ellington.

Starter A.J. Rooks struck out nine batters, gave up two unearned runs and scattered three hits in six innings for the Patriots.

Maggie Walker and Kaylee Macca scored goals for RHAM (2-3) in a 16-2 CCC inter-division loss to Southington (7-0) in Hebron.
