Whippets track down victory

May 5—GRISWOLD — Kyleigh Miller won the 800 ( 2: 56.03), 1,600 ( 5: 55.95) and 3,200 ( 14: 44.76) as the Windham High girls track and field team defeated Griswold, 85- 43, in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division III dual meet on Wednesday.

Asia Jones was first overall in the 100 hurdles ( 21.86) and 300 hurdles ( 1: 03.25) while Resia Baran finished first in the 200 (29.09), high jump ( 4- 2), triple jump ( 32-5) and pole vault ( 8- 6) for the Whippets (4-4), who also claimed a 90-25 victory over Parish Hill.

Also winning individual events for Windham were Skyleen Busanet ( javelin, 71- 3) and Iyanna Pannell (discus, 70-6).

Miller joined Geraldine Gonzalez, Shye Rivera and Katherin Gutierrez to finish first in the 4x400 relay event for the Whippets.

Windham's Alyahanna Aguilar, Asia Jones, Cayla Soto and Migdaliz Howard all teamed up to cross the finish line first in the 4x100 relay.

SOFTBALL

Caroline Wesoloskie ( 2 hits) hit a 3- run home run that enforced the mercy rule in the bottom of the sixth inning as Coventry defeated East Granby, 16-4, in a North Central Connecticut Conference game.

Sydney DeLuca added two hits, including an inside- thepark home run, with three RBI.

Sara Miller contributed a pair of hits and three RBI a while Julia Boya drove in two runs for the Patriots, who improved to 12-2 overall and 11- 1 in the NCCC standings.

Sydney DeLuca struck out seven batters to pick up the win in the circle, allowing nine hits while issuing two walks.

Coventry returns to action on Friday afternoon to take on Somers in a contest that will be featured by WFSBChannel 3 as its game of the week.

GIRLS TENNIS

RHAM ( 3- 6) dropped a 7- 0 Central Connecticut Conference inter- division decision to Wethersfield at the Newington Tennis Center in 8- game pro sets.

BASEBALL

Three pitchers combined on a 3- hitter for East Granby in a 10-3 NCCC victory over Coventry.

The Patriots ( 9- 3 overall, 7- 2 league) took a 2- 0 lead in the top of the first on a 2- out infield error before Gavin Covell cracked an RBI double in the fifth that scored Jacob Wojtkowiak. BOYS TRACK AND FIELD Jayden Villafane won three events for Windham in a 97-53 ECC Division III loss at Griswold.

Villafane finished first in the long jump ( 20- 0), triple jump (41-7) and 100 (11.6) for the Whippets.

Zach Smey finished first in the 400- meter event ( 51.99) and placed second in the 100.
