Whips improve to 5-0
Sep. 22—CENTRAL VILLAGE William Gonzalez scored 26 minutes into the second half for the only goal of the match as the Windham High boys soccer team stayed unbeaten with a 1- 0 Eastern Connecticut Conference inter- division victory on Tuesday over Plainfield.
Goalkeeper Bryan Alba made two saves for the Whips ( 5- 0), who won their second consecutive game by shutout and have out-scored their opponents by an 18-3 margin thus far this season.
Jeremy Rider had four saves for the Panthers (0-4).
In other games. ... Cody Rahmann cut into a 2- goal halftime deficit with 2: 22 remaining for Lyman Memorial ( 2- 3- 1), which was edged by St. Bernard, 2- 1, in a ECC inter- division game under the lights in Lebanon.
Jose Pacheco and Conor McWilliams scored firsthalf goals for the Saints (3-0-1). BOYS CROSS COUNTRY Demitri Hudak finished first overall ( 20: 36) over 3.1 miles for Windham in its ECC Division III meet at Lyman Memorial.
The host Bulldogs (3-0 overall, 2- 0 league) won 15- 50 with Hunter Sanchez placing second ( 21: 58) followed by Kyle Franchi ( 22: 41) in third, Oliver Gatti in fourth ( 22: 51) and Ryan Dungan in fifth (23:11).
Delmazio Despard (23:41) was sixth for the Whips.
GIRLS SOCCER
Grace Quinn scored two goals for Parish Hill in a 5- 2 Capital Region Athletic League victory over Classical Magnet/ University in Chaplin.
Emily Gay, Harmony Freed and Isabella Chokas also scored goals for the Pirates ( 3- 0 overall, 3- 0 league). Chokas also added two assists with Gay and Destiny Hernandez also having helpers.
Pearl and Freed combined on the win in goal.
Halie Oman scored for RHAM in a 3-1 Central Connecticut Conference East Division loss at Tolland.
Julia Mrachek made nine saves for the Raptors (0-4 overall, 0- 3 league), who also lost to Tolland, 6- 0, in Hebron on Sept. 13.
Cali- Dean Craft had a goal and two assists for the Eagles ( 4- 0, 3- 0), who have out-scored their opponents, 22-2. GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY Hazel Delucia ( 22: 26) led a sweep of the top five spots for Lyman Memorial in a 15-50 ECC Division III victory over Windham.
