Whips will play for DII title

Nov. 2—LEBANON — Miguel Garcia Zamudio recorded a hat trick to lead top- seed Windham in a 6- 1 Eastern Connecticut Conference Division II boys soccer semifinal tournament victory over Griswold at Lyman Memorial High School on Monday.

Zamudio opened the scoring on a penalty kick in the third minute and also added goals in the 49th and 60th minute for the Whippets (15-1-1).

Abimael Garcia added two goals and Oliver Coj also scored.

Aaron Palacios made three saves in the victory.

Windham will face No. 2 seed St. Bernard (15-1-1) for the Division II tournament title on Wednesday at Ledyard High School at 4:30 p.m.

The Saints edged No. 3 Montville, 1- 0, in their semifinal game.

The Whips last won the ECC Division II tournament title in 2019 with a victory on penalty kicks over Lyman Memorial at East Lyme High School.

GIRLS SOCCER

Kaelyn Pearl scored two goals and added two assists as No. 2 seed Parish Hill defeated No. 3 Classical Magnet/ University, 7- 3, in a Capital Region Athletic League tournament semifinal game in Chaplin.

Gretchen Ricci also had two goals for the Pirates ( 10- 4- 3) while Isabella Chokas and Emily Gay also scored.

Destiny Hernandez finished with two assists and Emily Gay also had an assist.

Parish Hill advances to the CRAL tournament final on Thursday at Dillon Stadium in Hartford.

VOLLEYBALL

Kassidy LaTour had four aces and eight kills and Carlee DeRoehn added four aces and five kills as Lyman Memorial advanced into the semifinals of the Eastern Connecticut Conference Division II tournament with a 25- 15, 25- 13, 25- 10 quarterfinal win over No. 8 seed New London.

The top- seeded Bulldogs ( 16- 5) will face No. 4 Plainfield on Wednesday in the semifinals at 6: 30 p. m. at Plainfield High School.

The Panthers advanced with a 3- game sweep over No. 5 Montville.

No. 3 Windham and No.2 Wheeler ( 15- 5) meet in the first semifinal at 4: 30 p. m.

The two semifinal winners play for the tournament title at 4: 30 p. m. on Friday at New London High School.

The Whips (12-9) defeated No. 6 Killingly in three games in their quarterfinal match.
