Whips power their way past Windham Tech

Sep. 21—WILLIMANTIC — Sienna Ortiz recorded a hat trick as the Windham High girls soccer team defeated Windham Tech, 5-1, in a non-league game Monday afternoon at Ferrigno Field.

Aja Fernandez scored twice for the Whips (4-1). Kyleigh Miller added two assists and Marie Jones made 13 saves.

Grace Smith scored for the Lady Tigers (3-1).

VOLLEYBALL

Lindsey DeMarchi had eight aces as Windham Tech swept Grasso Tech, 25-18, 25-17 and 25-16 in a Connecticut Technical Conference East Division match in Groton.

Aeralyn Beben added three kills and Ari Atanacio finished with 10 digs to lead the Lady Tigers (3-3 overall, 2-1 CTC East).

In New Britain, Skyleen Busanet had 20 digs, two kills and three aces for Windham in a 3-0 non-league victory over Civic Leadership.

Analise Escarraman added four kills and three digs and Judy Gomez had 20 assists, two kills and six aces for the Whips (3-2).

In Manchester, Zoe Parkinson went 15-for-15 on serve, winning 12 service points with four kills and two blocks as RHAM downed Manchester, 25-17, 25-12 and 25-8 in a CCC East inter-division match. Ally Hadley (10 kills, 6 digs), Marina McLaughlin (3 kills), Lauren Feige (10 assists), Nina Jobes (11 assists), Sarah West (5 kills), Lani Fecho (5 kills, 3 aces, 7 digs), Leah Bahamonde (8 digs) and Neve Tyler (2 aces) teamed up to provide the highlights for the Raptors (4-1).

In South Windsor, Ashley Lewis (5 kills, 6 digs) and Natalie Villanueva (4 aces, 3 kills, 9 digs) teamed up to lead E.O. Smith (3-1), which suffered its first setback of the season by dropping a 25-13, 25-14, 25-22 decision to the host Bobcats (3-1) in a CCC East inter-division match.

BOYS SOCCER

Ethan Demosthenous scored two goals and RHAM found the back of the net four times in the second half in a 5-1 CCC East inter-division victory over Bloomfield in Hebron.

Bradley Lim, Max Sementa and Cooper Halotek also had goals for RHAM (2-1).

Erik Buden (1) and Carson Waddell combined on one save in net for the Raptors.
