A white Christmas 'looks to remain a dream' this year with warmer temps, rain expected

Dreams of a white Christmas appear to be dashed in Calhoun County.

Though the forecast could change — after all, miracles do happen at this time of year — weather experts anticipate temperatures climbing into the 50s, with rain showers on Christmas Day.

So, a warm and wet Christmas, as it were.

"Unfortunately, a white Christmas looks to remain a dream as temps warm into the 40s and 50s by next week," the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids wrote in a tweet. To qualify as a white Christmas, there must an inch or more of snow on the ground ay 7 a.m. Christmas morning, per the weather service.

My, what a difference a year makes.

Dreams of a white Christmas were fully realized a year ago in Battle Creek as a blizzard dumped nearly 8 inches of snow on the Cereal City between Dec. 22-25.

This year, however, will feature rain showers on Saturday morning and on Christmas Day into Tuesday. Highs will warm to the upper 40s-low 50s Sunday through Tuesday.

Rain is likely after 1 p.m. on Christmas. Skies will be mostly cloudy with a high near 55 degrees, per the weather service. The chance of rain is 60%.
