White House development: RV Park and recreation center move forward; Burrus Ridge doesn't
A music-themed RV park with a store and restaurant and a new recreation center are building projects that are approved in White House and can move forward.
The city’s planning commission also gave a negative recommendation for a rezone request submitted for a plan to build more than 950 homes. Here’s the latest:
Music City RV Resort
A former driving range on Union Road will be converted into a park for recreational vehicles with 125 outbuildings that will include a store and restaurant.
The approximate 12 acres backs up to Interstate 65.
An existing 1,200 square foot building will be remodeled and will house office space, bathrooms, showers and laundry mat for users, property owner Tom Cox said.
A brand new building of about 2,400 square feet is also planned to include the store and a restaurant that will seat around 30. Walls and tables will be full of signed country music memorabilia and items that Cox has obtained. An outdoor area with an awning is planned.
Plans are also to build another building with showers and a laundry mat. And, eventually, Cox wants to renovate an existing barn on the property to an exercise and game-room. A dog park is also planned.
RV lots will be around 75-by-32 feet, which Cox said will be larger and customers will be able to pull through and avoid backing up.
Grading will be done first and Cox hopes to have the majority or all of the park complete in the second half of 2023.
White House Recreation Center
A site plan is approved to build a two-story 70,800 square foot facility that will include basketball courts, walking track, fitness center and game room.
The city’s Board of Mayor and Aldermen approved a $24M bond for the project in April. The new recreation center will be part of the town center complex on Highway 31W and College Street that include the existing community center, city hall and public library.
The basketball courts will allow for two full court basketball games or five half court practices. The walking track will be above the courts.
A multipurpose gym will be able to host volleyball, pickleball and basketball.
A room for small toddlers is also planned, White House City Administrator Gerald Herman said.
Plans are to bid the project this summer with hopes to start to construction in late September or October, Herman said. Hopes are to finish in the spring of 2024.
The current gym will remain operational until the new recreation center is finished. The current gym will then be demolished and used for parking.
Burrus Ridge
A national home builder’s plan to build 959 single family houses on 412 acres on New Hall Road got a negative recommendation by White House planning commissioners.
Burrus Ridge is the name of the development proposed by Lennar Homes.
The proposed density was a leading concern, White House Planning and Codes Director Ceagus Clark said.
The plan can still be considered by the White House Board of Mayor and Aldermen despite the negative recommendation.
Lennar Homes did not indicate if the company may propose changes to the plan, withdraw it or go forward as is.
The property is just south of Highway 76 and has had many different development proposals in the past.
