‘White House Plumbers’: First Look at Lena Headey and Judy Greer in HBO’s ‘Really Funny’ Watergate Drama

Justin Theroux, Judy Greer, Lena Headey, and Woody Harrelson. Those are the fine folks pictured above, and in case this sharp and sharply dressed quartet isn’t all you need to see before signing on for HBO’s upcoming original series — and frankly, it should be — IndieWire is here to shed a bit more light on “White House Plumbers,” a new project from creators Alex Gregory and Peter Huyck as well as director David Mandel.

“I think you can’t look at this shot, in particular, without [mentioning] Leah Katznelson and Anastasia White,” Mandel said, referencing his costume and production designer, respectively. “That is the Liddy living room you’re looking at — a monument to [White’s work] — and like the man himself, the Liddy house is a little off. That’s all I can say about that.”

Luckily, Mandel was able to share much more about what’s in store during an exclusive interview with IndieWire. Ever since late 2019, when the premium cable giant gave the ’70s-set limited series the green light, “Veep” fans, “Leftovers” alums, and true detectives alike (not to mention history buffs) have been keeping a close eye on the starry project. The pandemic delayed its initial start date, but production is now underway, new details are emerging, and IndieWire had the chance to speak with Mandel before he commenced the day’s shoot in upstate New York.

“Judy Greer started this week as Fran [Liddy], and we had the schedule built where her first scene as Fran was her first scene [in the show],” Mandel said. “It’s a dinner party at the Liddy house, and that’s when that picture was taken. Obviously, it’s a posed picture, but that is from that shoot: the Hunts meeting the Liddys for the first time.”
