In a press briefing Tuesday, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre responded to Tucker Carlson’s claim that the Biden administration tried to him from interviewing Vladimir Putin. The former Fox News host announced earlier in the day that he was sitting down with the Russian leader for his show on X (aka Twitter).

“Tucker Carlson is in Moscow and just confirmed that he’s going to be interviewing Russian President Vladimir Putin. He argues that Americans have a right to know all they can about a war they’re implicated in. Carlson contended in his preview video that the Biden administration has opposed — and even attempted to hinder — his attempts to interview Putin,” a reporter began asking the press secretary. “Do you have a comment on either the interview or that allegation?”

“Absolutely not,” Jean-Pierre replied.

“Absolutely not a comment or absolutely not that it happened?” a reporter asked.

“Absolutely not a comment, to be more clear. Period,” Jean-Pierre said.

The press secretary then circled back on that point later, saying, “I actually want to go back to your question. It’s a ridiculous premise and a ridiculous statement that was made about this administration. I just want to be very, very clear. It’s just ridiculous.”
