The White Lotus season two has left fans with many questions. Who dies at the end of the season? Can Quentin be trusted? And did Theo James wear a prosthetic in that scene? (The answer is yes btw). However, since the first episode there has been a very important question that has been confusing fans - why do they always eat in the hotel?

To recap: The White Lotus follows a similar pattern from the first season and sees a group of American tourists spend their holiday at the luxury White Lotus resort. This season takes place in Sicily, Italy and as the series unfolds we learn everything is not quite right with each group. As the groups begin to mingle more, things get even more messy and complicated, and by the end of the season, someone is going to end up dead.

However, before we get to that there is a fan question to address - why do they always eat in the hotel every night? Fans have been asking this on Twitter and TikTok ever since the first episode, with one person saying: "Why does everyone at The White Lotus eat at the hotel every night? YOU'RE IN ITALY!!!!!"

And another said: "The biggest plot hole in White Lotus is that all the guests are eating at the hotel for every meal EVERY night they’re there. Like yo wtf don’t they want to go eat food somewhere ELSE?"

And they're right, every night at dinner all the guests convene and eat dinner in the hotel restaurant. There has been the odd exception though. Albie (Adam DiMarco) and Portia (Haley Lu Richardson) went out for dinner, and Daphne (Meghann Fahy) and Harper (Aubrey Plaza) had dinner in Noto. However, even the characters themselves have made occasional nods to the plot point.

In one episode Theo James' character Cameron Sullivan complains at dinner when given a menu, saying: "I don't know why they keep giving us these menus. We know 'em back to front by now."

So why, when they are surrounded by some of the best food in the world, do they keep on going back to the hotel restaurant? Are they lazy? Is the food really that good? It's not like they don't have the money to try somewhere else? And tensions are already high, it would probably be good to get some fresh air and try somewhere new.

Whilst we don't have an official answer as to why this is, we can make a few guesses. From a plot point of view it makes sense to keep all the characters in the same room. There's more interactions between the guests and therefore more chance for awkward run-ins and tension to build.

The most likely explanation for why they eat in the same restaurant is that it's easier for filming. During the production of The White Lotus season one, which took place in the pandemic, they filmed all the scenes in the Maui Four Seasons in order to stick to COVID regulations.

So, even though we see the characters of season two take more day trips, it's likely the production team kept a similar pattern of filming the majority of the scenes in the same place for convenience and safety.
