White Object and Jets Seen Over Myrtle Beach as FAA Grounds Flights for 'National Security Effort'

The Federal Aviation Administration announced it closed airspace above the South Carolina and North Carolina coastal region “to support the Department of Defense in a national security effort” on Saturday, February 4.

Local news outlets reported that a high-altitude balloon, which was first spotted over Montana, had made its way to the Myrtle Beach area.

The Pentagon confirmed on February 3 that a Chinese high-altitude surveillance balloon was crossing above the United States.

Video posted by Jolene Mortlock on Saturday, which she said was filmed in Myrtle Beach, shows a white object in the sky with two contrails nearby.

Reporters said that when “asked if the balloon was going to be shot down,” President Joe Biden “just gave a thumbs up” on Friday afternoon. Credit: Jolene Mortlock via Storyful
