White-Rodgers has recalled about 135,000 Emerson Sensi WiFi thermostats sold in the U.S. and another 15,000 sold in Canada for risk of fire hazard. Health Canada notes this can happen during replacement or service of your heating or cooling system.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission has eight reports of burn damage to the thermostat with minor property damage, but no injuries. Health Canada has no reports of incidents or injuries.

The affected thermostats were sold under the Emerson brand between April 2014 and December 2016 at Home Depot, Johnstone, Golden State FC, and HVAC equipment distributors nationwide. The units have one of the following two model numbers: 1F86U-42WF or UP500W.

You can determine whether you have an affected unit by removing the thermostat from the wall and looking at its date code on the back of the thermostat. Both the CPSC recall notice and the Health Canada recall noticeprovide information on how to determine if your thermostat is included in the recall.

The recall encourages consumers to contact White-Rodgers for a free repair or replacement of the thermostat. You can contact White-Rodgers by calling 888-847-8742 or going to white-rodgers.com and clicking on "Emerson Branded Sensi Recall" near the bottom-left of the page.
