White Stone Developments' Lake Shadroe Resort coming to northwest Cape Coral

Lake Shadroe Resort, a vacation resort, is planned for the growing northwest part of Cape Coral, and some residents are concerned about the changes it can bring.

White Stone Developments LLC, a Cape Coral-based real estate developer, is looking to build a 48-unit multi-use development consisting of a four-story resort and two-story commercial building.

“It was a real honor to be able to share our vision for the future of the northwest Cape. Not only will it bring visitors to this beautiful area of the country, it will bring business and jobs to this quickly growing part of Florida,” wrote Robert Knight, Founder & CEO of White Stone, in a news release.

“Its retail, dining, and waterfront amenities will provide great additions to northwest Cape Coral."

White Stone Development's planned resort will be located between Blue Water Coach Homes and Burnt Store Boat Ramp.

The company submitted permit applications to the city of Cape Coral to begin construction of the site and is currently awaiting reviews from the city. The resort could open by early 2025.

Other amenities would be retail stores, a café, a marina, a spa, a pool with a jacuzzi, a beach, a bait and tackle shop, a restaurant, and a tiki bar.

The site is surrounded by residential areas and located next to the city's Burnt Store Boat Ramp, a 4.5-acre boat launch facility that provides access to the North West Spreader canal.

Dave Webster, an 18-year resident and retired fire inspector for the city, said he would have preferred to see the city buy that space for expanding the boat ramp, making a park, or putting another business that brings work to the city.

"I'd rather see light industry than hospitality because people don't make a lot of money making beds and making hamburgers," Webster told The News-Press.

He and his wife, Laura, live a street away from the parcel and also worry about traffic congestion and the residents who use the boat ramps.

"The boat ramp gets used a great deal, especially on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday," Webster said. "Saturday and Sunday they are parked  down the street."

Though he's mixed on the project, he's thankful it's a resort and not more apartments or condos.

Knight said the area was chosen because he liked the northwest area of Cape Coral and thinks his development would add something the area needed, hotels and restaurants.

"There's a lot of development going on in the whole area and with that (there) certainly will come with some additional traffic, but I think our site adds so much value to the area in the sense that there isn't a lot of waterfront dining out there at all," Knight told The News-Press. "As a resort, we're going to be really a hotel, so we're filling another need there as well."

Councilmember Keith Long said the city is excited about the project.

"It's just an idea, a hope, and so hopefully we can sit and work with them to help them bring it to fruition," Long told The News-Press.

He said the plans will undergo the typical process for permits.

"I would imagine in the next couple of months we'll get a better idea on the progress of those permits and what we're looking at," Long said.

Knight said he estimates the permits will be done next February.
