Whitefield and Assumption girls soccer stars take regional Player of the Year honors

Whitefield Academy’s Sara Ritter and Assumption's A.G. Gibson have been named Players of the Year in their respective girls soccer regions.

Ritter was named Sixth Region Player of the Year after posting 67 goals (second in the state) and 27 assists. The junior striker helped the Wildcats go 20-4 and win their first-ever Sixth Region title.

Whitefield’s season ended Monday with a 5-1 loss to Owensboro Catholic in the first round of the state tournament.

Gibson, a junior midfielder, was named Seventh Region Player of the Year after recording 22 goals and 13 assists. She helped the Rockets go 18-5-3 and win their first Seventh Region title since 2012.

Assumption’s season ended Monday with a 2-0 loss to South Oldham in the first round of the state tournament.
