Whitesboro school bus struck by passing car during Thursday morning route

A Jeep struck a bus after trying to pass it several times in a no passing zone on Cosby Manor Road in Deerfield on Thursday morning, the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

Deputies said a 2015 Jeep Wrangler driven by Mark Bostwick, 39, of Deerfield, was traveling west on Cosby Manor Road shortly before 7:30 a.m. when he attempted to pass a Whitesboro Central School District bus several times in a no passing zone.

Bostwick eventually tried to pass the bus on the right shoulder of the roadway causing his vehicle to strike the bus near the door.

The bus had children on board, deputies said. No injuries were reported on scene.

Bostwick was issued several traffic citations including failing to stop for a school bus, improper passing, failure to keep right and aggravated unlicensed operation. He is to appear in the Town of Deerfield Court at a later date.

Deputies were assisted on scene by Deerfield Fire Department.
