Whiting: 4Q Earnings Snapshot

DENVER (AP) _ Whiting Petroleum Corp. (WLL) on Thursday reported a fourth-quarter loss of $147.5 million, after reporting a profit in the same period a year earlier.

On a per-share basis, the Denver-based company said it had a loss of $1.62. Losses, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, came to 22 cents per share.

The results beat Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of 10 analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of 44 cents per share.

The oil and gas company posted revenue of $380.6 million in the period, which also beat Street forecasts. Seven analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $376 million.

For the year, the company reported a loss of $241.2 million, or $2.64 per share, swinging to a loss in the period. Revenue was reported as $1.57 billion.

The company's shares closed at $2.26. A year ago, they were trading at $28.13.
