Whitmer told a crowd at the MotorCity Casino Hotel: “We are waiting for some final numbers and we do not want to keep you here all night long, but we are feeling damn good about where we are now.”

GRETCHEN WHITMER: Oh my god. Thank you everybody. I am so, so happy to be here with all of you, and my family, and my partner in governance, and all the phenomenal Michiganders who worked so hard to make sure that our voices were heard. Solving problems, not demonizing others.

And this focused on ensuring that Michigan is the place to build your life, to raise your family, and to make a great, great existence here. We have come a long way, Michigan.

We are thrilled, thrilled at the unexpected high turnout. We are thrilled that the three-ballot initiatives got passed.

And the prospect of leading this state for four more years is something for which we are incredibly grateful and excited about. And regardless of who is in office, we will always work with anyone who actually wants to solve the problem because there's nothing more important than the people of this state to us.

[AUDIENCE CHEERING]

All the people of this state. And so I thank you for your encouragement, your support. I thank you for being here till the wee hours of the morning. And I don't know if you want to come back for a little press conference in the morning, but we will be ready to talk about what the future of this state is for the next four years.

[AUDIENCE CHEERING]

I love you all. I love my husband, my girls, and my three step sons. I am so grateful to be here with every single one of you. Have a wonderful rest of the night. Make good choices.

[AUDIENCE CHEERING]

It's what I say to my children. And we will continue to serve. We will continue to lead. We will make Michigan a leader, a place where every person is respected and protected under the law. A place where women make their own decisions.

[AUDIENCE CHEERING]

A place that protects civil rights and workers' rights, and where there's a path for everyone. Thank you everybody. I love you.
