New Whit's Frozen Custard shop now open on South Broad Street

LANCASTER − John and Christy Jones got tired of driving to Canal Winchester to enjoy Whit's Frozen Custard. So they opened their own franchise location at 213 South Broad St in the former Thimmes building across from the post office on Dec. 2.

"We moved to Lancaster about 3 1/2 years ago (from Heath)," Christy Jones said. "We have always loved Lancaster and we are thrilled to be here. We kept driving to Canal Winchester to get our Whit's, and I said, 'You know, now that the kids are grown and gone maybe we open a Whit's.' And, honestly, nine months later here we are."

Here are some things to know about the new Whit's location.

  • Frozen custard is more rich and creamy than ice cream.

  • The new location offers chocolate, vanilla and the flavor of the week. It also has a multitude of toppings to put on the custard.

  • Customers can also order a Whitser, which Christy Jones is similar to a Dairy Queen signature product. Whit's also offers a Whittie, which is two baked cookies with custard between them.

  • The new Whit's location also serves food like walking tacos, sandwiches, soups, hot dogs and coneys.

  • It is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 7 p.m. on Sunday.
