Whole Foods Market to open location in downtown San Diego

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A new Whole Foods Market will be coming to downtown San Diego.

On Tuesday, the supermarket chain confirmed to FOX 5/KUSI in an email about the move, saying they “look forward to continuing to serve the San Diego community with high-quality natural and organic products and an unparalleled grocery shopping experience.”

Project developer Holland Partner Group told the San Diego Union-Tribune the Whole Foods Market will open at the Front & A project at 201 West A St.

A permit application submitted to the City of San Diego in December describes Front & A as a 343-foot-tall tower with commercial space and 450 residential units, according to the U-T. Whole Foods Market will take over roughly 50,000 sq. ft. of ground-floor and mezzanine space at the base of the high-rise building.

Front & A is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2026, however, Whole Foods Market has not released any details at this time about when its downtown San Diego location will open.

San Diego County is home to three other Whole Foods in Del Mar, Hillcrest and La Jolla.
