Who's on the 2023 special ballot for Lane County's smaller school districts?

Special election day is May 16, and there are a number of candidates running for school board positions across Lane County.

Here are the 38 positions open on smaller school district boards across the county.

Blachly School District #90

Blachly School District has three board positions up for election. All three races are uncontested. Two candidates are incumbent. Those elected will join the seven-member school board.

Ciara Clark, running for zone 1, owns Wool & Hide Leather Co. LLC and she has a background in cosmetology. Clark earned a business degree from Western Oregon University.

Lenae Sjostrom, running for reelection to zone 3, is a medical assistant. She was first elected to the board in 2019.

Beverly (Effa) Schiesser, running for reelection to zone 4, is a retired special education teacher. She was first elected to the board in 2019.

Creswell School District #40

Creswell School District has four board positions up for election on the seven-member board. Three current board members are running for reelection.

Kandice A Lemhouse Worsham, running uncontested for reelection to position 1, is the human relations practice manager for Bails & Associates LLC. Lemhouse Worsham was first elected in 2019. She is also a board member on the Creswell Education Foundation and a member of the Creswell Booster Club.

For position 2, two newcomers will face off: Ronald Colletti, owner and president of Full Circle Property Management Inc. and a military veteran, and Sarah Cox, who works as chief of operations for an undisclosed company, according to her candidate filing.

For position 3, running against incumbent Debi Wilkerson is Margaret Michele Colletti, a veteran, owner and secretary of Full Circle Property Management Inc. who is married to Ronald Colletti. Wilkerson was first elected in 2019 and is on the Creswell High School Booster board. Wilkerson also has previously worked in education.

Running uncontested for position 7 is incumbent Mary Stayton, who works at the University of Oregon.

Crow-Applegate-Lorane School District #66

Crow-Applegate-Lorane has two board positions up for election. Those elected will join a five-member board.

Running against incumbent Doug Perry for position 1 is Karen Bodner, who is a retired gardener. Bodner previously ran for office in the 2021 special election for Lorane Rural Fire Protection District but lost. Perry is also retired and a former assistant fire marshal. He was first elected in 2019.

David A. Fowler is running uncontested for reelection to position 2. He worked for Eugene Water and Electric Board for 22 years and was first elected to the board in 2019.

Fern Ridge School District #28J

Fern Ridge School District has two board positions up for election. Those elected will join a five-member school board.

Running against incumbent vice chair Jacqueline Turle for position 1 is Kathleen Pizzola, who runs a homeschool co-op and is a former Fern Ridge Middle School teacher. Turle has 30 years of experience in both K-12 and higher education as a former principal and educator.

Lisa McCann, a retired primary school teacher, is running against incumbent Lorrie Daniels, an accountant at Moss Adams LLP, for position 5.

Junction City School District #69

Junction City School District has four positions up for election on its seven-member board.

Ryan Ceniga is running uncontested for reelection for position 1. Ceniga is a Lane County commissioner, representing west Lane County. He was first elected to the Junction City board in 2021.

Two people are running for position 2, an unexpired term: Alaire Fajardo, who was appointed to the seat in 2022, and Jim Anderson, who owns several businesses including Grass Mulch LLC and JRA Land LLC. Fajardo ran for election in 2021, but lost. She was then appointed to the position in March 2022. She is on the board for Every Child Lane County.

Running against incumber chair Daniel Allred for position 4 is Jesse C. Springer, a rental territory manager at Papé Material Handling. Allred works for the Eugene Springfield Fire Department. He was first elected to the board in 2015.

Wendy Waddell is running uncontested for reelection to position 7. Waddell is owner of AmeriSpec Inspection Services and has served on the board since 2014.

Lowell School District #71

Lowell School District has two open positions up for election to join the five-member board. Both races are uncontested incumbents.

Suzanne Kintzley, running for reelection to position 1, was first elected in 2015. She is a commercial real estate broker.

Dionne Plahn, running for reelection to position 5, is an office manager for Tumac Inc.

Mapleton School District #32

Mapleton School District has three board positions up for election. All three races are uncontested.

The only newcomer in this district's election, running for position 3, is Abbie Kimble, a stay-at-home mom of two.

Seeking election for position 4, an unexpired term, is Maree Beers, a program manager at Financial Beginnings Oregon, who currently sits on the board.

Michelle Holman, who has spent more than 35 years on the school board, is seeking reelection to position 5.

Marcola School District #79J

Marcola School District has two board positions up for election. Both races are uncontested incumbents.

Amy Johnson, a child and family therapist, is running for reelection to position 1.

Shad Turner, former football and track coach, is running for reelection to position 2.

McKenzie School District #68

McKenzie School District has four board positions up for election.

Running against incumbent Danna Brownell for position 1 is Taya Brock, owner of Takoda's Restaurant. Brownell was first elected in 2021 and is a medical office manager.

Two candidates are running for position 2: Kail Harbick, owner of Ark77 Recovery Center and Harbick's Country Inn, and Sarah Mackenzie, social worker and families connected program manager.

Running against incumbent Alyssa Brownlee for position 3 is Max Metcalfe, operation manager at McKenzie River Rock Quarry. Brownlee is a small business owner who was first elected to the board in 2015.

Justin Barker, who works at Green Mountain Grills, is running against incumbent Jason Wickizer for position 5 on the board. Wickizer works for the Oregon Department of Transportation and Oregon Department of Forestry.

Oakridge School District #76

Oakridge School District has two board positions up for election.

Maggie Curtis, a registered nurse who currently serves on the board, and August Reed, a certified nurse's aide, are facing off for school board position 1.

Three candidates have filed for position 4. Jayme Martin is an administrative assistant and former school board secretary. Ken Wright is a retired high school teacher and veteran. Jeri A. Reed is a Early Childhood CARES teacher at University of Oregon.

Pleasant Hill School District #1

Pleasant Hill School District has two board positions up for election. Both races are uncontested.

Incumbent John Oldham is running for reelection to position 1. He is owner of Oldham Crane Service Inc. and was first elected in 2007.

Jennifer Woodland, a special procedures X-ray technologist, is running for position 3.

Siuslaw School District #97J

Siuslaw School District has four board positions up for election.

Running against current board member Brian Lacouture for position 1 is Devon Weinstein, who previously worked for Head Start of Lane County. Lacouture is a general contractor with more than 20 years experience.

Incumbent Robert Sneddon is running against Tamara Cole, who works at BJ’s Ice Cream, for position 3. Sneddon works in radio broadcasting and was first elected in 2019.

Running against current board member Frank Armendariz for position 5 is Josh Haberly of Haberly Painting. Armendariz is a retired river guide.

Running against incumbent Dianna Pimlott for position 7 is Jason Wood, a vocal and piano instructor. Pimlott is a pharmacy and infusion services director who was elected in 2019.

South Lane School District #45J3

South Lane School District has four board positions up for election.

Tammy Hodgkinson, a former teacher, is running uncontested for reelection to position 1.

Three candidates have filed for position 3. Martha Allen is a retired care manager. Incumbent Dustin Bengston is in government service and was first elected in 2019. Duane Taddei is a locomotive engineer and chairman of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineer's & Trainmen.

Joe Tucker, a safety manager for Umpqua Roofing, is running uncontested for position 6.

Running against incumbent Gary Mort for position 7 is Tina Murphy. Mort is a professor at Lane Community College who was first elected in 2011.
