Who's headed to state? Here are the Springfield area's advancing boys and girls golfers

Sacred Heart-Griffin mopped up boys and girls sectional team victories on Monday to head into the state finals with a degree of momentum.

All state qualifiers will undertake the state finals on Friday and Saturday.

On the boys side, the Class 2A state finals will take place at Weibring Golf Club in Normal while Prairie Vista Golf Course in Bloomington will welcome the 1A field.

On the girls side, Class 2A participants will visit Hickory Point Golf Course in Decatur while 1A competitors will descend on the other side of town at Red Tail Run Golf Course.

Here are the Springfield-area's state qualifiers, separated by class and sectional:

CLASS 2A BOYS

BARTONVILLE LIMESTONE SECTIONAL

BARTONVILLE — Junior Cal Johnson fired a 1-under-par 71 and led the Sacred Heart-Griffin boys golf team to the Class 2A Bartonville Limestone Sectional title at Coyote Creek Golf Club on Monday.

Johnson tied Springfield High senior Peyton Woods for second place individually with six birdies, including three straight on Nos. 15-17.

Three other Cyclones finished inside the top 10 to win the sectional with 295 strokes and nudge runner-up SHS (300). Quincy Notre Dame (316) also qualified as a team.

SHG senior Tyler Furkin earned fifth place with a 74 while senior teammates Carter Etheridge and Nick Calucchia tied for sixth place with a 75. SHG previously won the Maroa-Forsyth Regional on Wednesday.

Woods totaled four birdies, including three on the front nine, while junior teammate James Oh reached fourth place with a 73.

SHS teammates Jake Baldin, who won the Maroa Regional individually, and Julian Valenti tied for 15th place with a 78.

Champaign Central senior Wade Schacht won the sectional with a 67.

WATERLOO SECTIONAL

WATERLOO — Chatham Glenwood nabbed third place by two strokes and qualified as a team in the Class 2A Waterloo Sectional at Acorns Golf Links.

Glenwood teammates Brock Bredehoft, Cameron Appenzeller and Derek Dulceak tied for 11th place at 6-over 78. Junior Taylorville Regional medalist Bradyn Sayarath (82) rounded out the team score of 316.

Benton (296) won the team title behind River Stilley’s first-place even-par 72. Mattoon (315) was second.

CLASS 1A BOYS

MASON CITY ILLINI CENTRAL SECTIONAL

GREENVIEW — Williamsville junior teammates Cole Brewer and Will Seman tied for sixth place 8-over 80 to advance out of the Class 1A Mason City Illini Central Sectional at Country Hills Golf Course.

Jacksonville Routt junior Conrad Charpentier, who claimed the Routt Regional individually, also made the cut with an 81. Ditto Auburn’s Logan Kavish (82) and South County’s Logan Smith (83).

EFFINGHAM ST. ANTHONY SECTIONAL

EFFINGHAM — Litchfield junior Tug Schwab shot 3-over 75 and tied for second-place individually to lead the Purple Panthers to second place as a team in the Class 1A Effingham St. Anthony Sectional at Effingham Country Club.

Schwab tallied two birdies in the round.

Springfield's best2021 all-area boys golf team

A.J. Odie (82), Sam Schwab (85) and Brawly Jacobs (90) rounded out the team score for Litchfield.

Vandalia’s Conner McCall won the individual title 1-over 73.

St. Anthony earned first place as a team with a 307, followed by Litchfield (332) and Alton Marquette (338).

CLASS 2A GIRLS

O’FALLON SECTIONAL

CASEYVILLE — Senior Addison Eades chalked up a 3-over 75 and Sacred Heart-Griffin won the Class 2A O’Fallon Sectional at Far Oaks Golf Club.

Eades captured fifth place individually with back-to-back birdies on Nos. 11 and 12.

Two other Cyclones cracked the top 10: senior Molly Marriott’s 76 was sixth while sophomore Izzy Hassebrock’s 78 was ninth.

Senior Jaycie Cole’s 83 rounded out the team score of 312, followed by O’Fallon (318) and Normal University (319).

Edwardville’s Nicole Johnson took first place 6-under 66.

CLASS 1A GIRLS

LINCOLN SECTIONAL

LINCOLN — Athens junior Catalina Easley and Pleasant Plains sophomore Alaina Ervin each mustered 13-over 84 to come away with fourth place individually in the Class 1A Lincoln Sectional at the Lincoln Elks Club.

Easley previously won the Camp Point Regional title individually on Thursday.

Springfield's best:2021 all-area girls golfers

Rochester junior teammates Kiley Torres and Isabel Tom will also appear at state with scores of 87 and 88, respectively. Tom led the Rockets to the Bethany Okaw Valley Regional title as a medalist on Thursday.

South County’s Grace Rector (88) also qualified for state.

Quincy Notre Dame won the team title while Mahomet-Seymour's Ainsley Winters took first individually 8-over 79.

SALEM SECTIONAL

SALEM — Litchfield senior Laura Boston was the only area state qualifier out of the Class 1A Salem Sectional at Salem Country Club. She tied for 13th place with a round of 83.
