Bids for the next big election cycle, the presidential election in 2024, are already in and the second debate in the race for the Republican nomination is Wednesday night.

Rumors, thoughts and speculation of who could be on the 2024 presidential ticket swirled at the beginning of 2023, but now the field of candidates vying for the presidential seat has solidified in both parties and debates have started.

The GOP party started out with 13 people vying for the spot including the likes of former President Donald Trump, former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, Florida's Gov. Ron DeSantis, U.S. Senator for S.C. Tim Scott and even Trump's former Vice President Mike Pence. And that's just naming a few. As December and the year comes to an end, there are now seven Republican candidates that are still in the national spotlight vying for the title in 2024.

On the Democrat's side, the group is a bit thinner. Joe Biden is making a run for re-election while self-help author Marianne Williamson and U.S. Representative for Minnesota Dean Phillips are vying to take the spot. While Robert F. Kennedy Jr. made a switch from the Democratic ballot to a third party.

Here's what's already happening in the bid for the White House:

Who are the front runners in the 2024 presidential race?

It was expected to be a Trump-Biden rematch of 2020, but don't count anyone out yet.

The Democratic Party is expected to rally behind President Biden and on the Republican side, it still kind of a toss-up.

Former President Trump is still leading, but there are still charges that loom which looks to have shaken some support in the polls. And there are plenty of other GOP hopefuls that have their hat in the ring and are vying to overtake Trump. So far Hayley and DeSantis seem to be Trump's main competition.

When is the next election in Tennessee?

As 2024 looms so does a presidential election year.

The next presidential election is in 2024, but like in years past the start of the campaign trail begins early.

After the midterms, more speculation on who will and who won't run for president until official candidacy announcements are made.

The 2024 election will be the 60th quadrennial presidential election and is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2024.
