APPLETON - Republican state Senate and Assembly members not seeking reelection have created contested seats in their districts, according to nomination papers approved and pending approval with the Wisconsin Elections Commission.

Assembly Majority Leader Jim Steineke's 5th District seat is open, with three Republicans and one Democrat vying to replace Steineke, who's stepping down after 12 years in office.

Rather than seeking another term in the Legislature, Sen. Roger Roth, R-Appleton, is running for lieutenant governor. Assembly Rep. Rachael Cabral-Guevara, R-Appleton, is now vying for his 19th Senate District seat, along with one other Republican and two Democrats.

Two newcomers are vying for Cabral-Guevara's 55th Assembly District seat.

All Assembly districts will be up for two-year terms in the fall election. In the Senate, all odd-numbered districts are up for a four-year term.
