The Jax River Jams concert series resumes Thursday evening at Riverfront Plaza in downtown Jacksonville with a show by Jamaican hip hop artist Shaggy. Here are some things to know about him before you head out.

Who is Shaggy?

Shaggy was born Orville Burrell in Kingstown, Jamaica. He's a former U.S. Marine, a seven-time Grammy nominee and a two-time winner and was the Space Bunny on "The Masked Singer." He's played in Jacksonville before, at Daily's Place in 2019, when he opened for Sting.

What is Shaggy going to play at Jax River Jams concert?

There's no telling, but it's a safe bet that you'll hear his big hits, "Angel," "Boombastic," "It Wasn't Me," "Oh Carolina" and "Hey Sexy Lady."

You actually have two opportunities to see Shaggy perform in Northeast Florida. You can catch him tonight — for free — at Riverfront Plaza, or you can catch him as part of the Hot Summer Nights Tour, with TLC, En Vogue and Sean Kingston, at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre on June 4. Tickets for the St. Augustine show are $49.50-$125.

What time is Jax River Jams concerts?

Local bands will start at 5:30 and 7 p.m. and the headliner takes the stage at 8:30 p.m. for each of the shows.
