Why Bo Jackson doesn't closely follow Auburn football

HOOVER — Bo Jackson isn't thinking too much about Auburn football.

The legendary Auburn running back isn't closely in-tune with the Tigers' offseason because he's focused on business and being a grandparent, he said Wednesday morning at the Regions Tradition Pro-Am.

"I'm excited for the season, but I know as much about what's going on as a man on the moon," Jackson said. "I transitioned from the sports world to the business world. And being a grandpa. ... I really don't know. Honestly, and I'm not being funny, I don't keep up with it. I just don't have time."

Jackson was among the celebrities competing in a round of golf at the PGA Tour event. He shared a tee time with fellow Auburn sports icon Charles Barkley. Both played at Auburn in the early 1980s, and both recently became grandfathers. "We will compare pictures today," Jackson said.

Asked about his relationship with second-year Auburn coach Bryan Harsin, Jackson said simply, "It's been good. Period. End of story."

Jackson has a nephew on Auburn's roster: Senior Shedrick Jackson was the Tigers' second-leading receiver last season (40 catches, 527 yards) and is returning for an extra year of eligibility.

Bo Jackson won the 1985 Heisman Trophy at Auburn and went on to become the first All-Star athlete in multiple professional sports (NFL and MLB). He now is CEO and president of Jackson & Partners.

He leads an annual charity bike ride called "Bo Bikes Bama." Harsin participated in the event this year.

"Bo does such a great job, we all know that," Harsin said Wednesday. "I was at his Bo Bikes Bama and that event was phenomenal. So it was good to see that."
