Here’s why there’s construction at the Walmart on Whittlesey Boulevard in Columbus

Customers at the Walmart on Whittlesey Boulevard may see some construction at the retail store as it undergoes a remodel.

A barrier has been placed blocking off a portion of the parking lot between the Walmart and the adjacent Sam’s Club where customers previously went to pick up their online orders. This barrier is part of the company’s remodel plans, Walmart spokesperson Robert Arrieta told the Ledger-Enquirer.

An area in the front of the store has now been designated for pickup orders instead, he said, and customers should be able to find signs indicating the change. There is no estimated time of completion for the remodel, Arrieta said.

“We don’t get hard dates on that kind of thing because of construction,” he said. “You never know what kind of delays there could be with weather, materials or workforce.”

Walmart customers should expect there to be a full remodel of the store upgrading both the interior and exterior of the store, he said. This remodel of the Columbus store begins less than six months after a Phenix City Walmart Neighborhood Market celebrated the completion of its own remodel last year.

The company asks customers to be patient during the construction process because the store might be noisy and messy for some time while the remodel is underway, Arrieta said.

“But we’re still going to be there to serve our customers,” he said. “So the store will still be functioning.”
