Democrats win George Santos’s seat
Democrat Tom Suozzi won a special election for former Republican Rep. George Santos’s House seat in New York’s Third Congressional District, narrowing the GOP’s thin majority in the chamber.
What happened: Suozzi, who held the seat for three terms before Santos, ran on a message of bipartisanship in the politically mixed suburban district. [AP]
Why it matters: When Suozzi takes office, House Republicans will outnumber Democrats 219 to 213, meaning they would be able to only lose two votes on partisan bills. [New York Times]
