Why Dorman's DJ Geth signed with UNC football

Ahead of the early signing period and National Signing Day on Wednesday, The Spartanburg Herald-Journal spoke to members of the 2022 864Huddle Dandy Dozen list, a collection of the top senior college football prospects from across the Upstate, to ask why they chose their college.

Here's Dorman's three-star offensive lineman, DJ Geth, on why he decided to follow in his father's foot steps and head to Chapel Hill and play for North Carolina.

Why North Carolina?

For Geth, the Tar Heels have always been part of his family, dating back to when his father Ed Geth played for legendary UNC basketball coach Dean Smith and was part of the 1992-93 national championship-winning team. So when DJ Geth had the chance to sign with his dad's alma mater, North Carolina blue felt like home.

"I've been around Tar Heel blue my whole life, so it means a lot to know I'll be there," said Geth. "I chose North Carolina because I really connected with the coaching staff, and every time I went out there, it felt like home. I just felt like I wanted to be there."

What is Geth looking forward to the most about North Carolina?

Though Geth is excited to follow his father's footsteps to Chapel Hill, he wants his experience at North Carolina to go beyond playing in the ACC, he wants the experience to help him prepare to make it to the next level.

"I want to have a great college career, and take that time to prepare myself to then go on and play in the NFL," Geth said. "One of the reasons I wanted to go to UNC is because of the talks I had with coach (Darrell) Moody, who used to be an NFL scout. He talked to me about how good he thought I could be, like a first round type player if I keep working."
