Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine has ordered United States and Ohio state flags to be flown at half-staff to recognize Patriot Day on Monday - the 22nd anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

Flags at all public buildings and grounds throughout the state of Ohio will remain at half-staff from sunrise until sunset on Monday in honor of those killed in the terrorist attacks in 2001.

On Thursday, volunteers came to the Ohio Statehouse to help place 2,977 U.S. Flags on the Ohio Statehouse West Lawn honoring each of the victims of the Sept. 11 attacks.

The National Veterans Memorial and Museum will have a remembrance ceremony from noon to 1 p.m. Monday to honor those who lost their lives, the first responders who rescued many and the veterans who served again on that day 22 years ago.

Admission to the Museum is free on Patriot Day and tickets can be reserved online.

According to The Sextant, the Naval History and Heritage Command's blog, half-mast refers to lowered flags on a ship, while half-staff is a pole in the ground. But the blog continues to say half-mast is used outside the U.S.
