Why former Vanderbilt star Sarah Fuller has ended her college career in women's soccer

Sarah Fuller, the former Vanderbilt kicker and the first woman to score in a Power 5 football game, has announced she is "stepping away from college sports."

She made the announcement Wednesday on Twitter. Fuller had another season of eligibility to play soccer at North Texas.

Fuller, a goalkeeper, said she will be stepping away from sports to finish her MBA in Sports Management.

Fuller has become an advocate for athletes dealing with mental health after she herself experienced depression earlier this year.

She had previously announced she wouldn't participate in soccer during the spring practice and exhibition schedule, but came back with a newfound passion for the sport, including a break where she trained for the Boston Marathon.

Fuller's revamped love for the game led her to join Aurora FC, a member of the USL W League. They went to the USL W League championship where they were defeated 2-1.

Fuller began her college career at Vanderbilt and transferred in December 2020 to North Texas. She helped the Commodores with the SEC Tournament Championship in 2020.

During the 2020 season, Fuller was added to the Vanderbilt football team and scored two extra points in just two games in a Commodores uniform.
