Legal experts joined the American-Statesman on Wednesday evening to break down the seventh day of suspended Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton's impeachment trial.

Hosted by Statesman investigative reporter Tony Plohetski, Austin attorneys Marc Chavez and Thomas Just as well as former federal prosecutor Jorge Vela weighed in on a day that featured testimony from witnesses such as former Paxton assistant Andrew Wicker, who testified about kitchen renovations in Paxton's home in Austin's Tarrytown neighborhood.

Our guests also discussed Laura Olson, a woman with whom Paxton has been reported to having had an affair and who was later employed by Nate Paul, an Austin real estate developer and campaign donor at the center of Paxton's bribery charge. On Wednesday afternoon, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, who is presiding over the impeachment trial, announced that prosecutors called Olson as a witness. He said she was present in the chamber but not available to testify.

Grumet: Ken Paxton didn't have to sit through the testimony about his affair. His wife did.
