Why you’ll soon have to hit ‘1’ when dialing a '209' area code phone number

Placing a call to a number with a '209' area code will soon require dialers to hit 1, then 2-0-9, then the last seven digits. The California Public Utilities Commission announced the change will be implemented on Oct. 24. It's a simple change, some Stockton residents said. See more above.
