Why Meghan didn't open any of her baby shower gifts

Meghan Markle was quite literally showered with gifts by the friends she invited to her New York baby shower this week. Fashion designer Misha Nonoo and TV personality Gayle King were among many to arrive at The Mark Hotel on Wednesday, laiden with gift bags for the Duchess of Sussex's unborn baby.

But according to Gayle, who was one of around 20 guests invited to the exclusive (and super high profile - Serena Williams and Amal Clooney were also on the list of attendees) celebration, Meghan didn't actually open any of her gifts.

While you might have imagined the royal mum-to-be sitting on the floor of The Mark's penthouse suite, surrounded by mountains of discarded pink and blue wrapping paper, that wasn't actually the case.

"[She] didn't open any of the gifts because she wants to do that when she and Harry are back together," Gayle told television station CBS.

While Meghan's baby shower took place in New York, Prince Harry remained in the UK where he was busy with work commitments. On February 19, Harry attended a half-term holiday programme run by a youth service in Streatham, and on February 20, he attended a Royal Marines demonstration. As he wasn't able to travel to America alongside Meghan, it's quite sweet that she chose to wait until she got home to jointly open the gifts for their baby.

But if you're hoping to find out exactly what baby Sussex's gifts were, you can keep on dreaming, because Gayle was remaining tight-lipped. "If I told you, you know, I'd have to kill you," the presenter said in response to being asked what she bought the royal baby.

"[Meghan is] a very private person" she added, explaining that "she should decide what she wants to say about [the baby shower]."

And, well, fair dos.

We did appreciate the tiny sneak peek into the baby shower given by Meghan's makeup artist Daniel Martin, however, who posted a picture of the baby shower biscuits on his Instagram page.

"A good time was had by all," Gayle said, summarising the event.

Meghan was pictured leaving Upper East Side hotel The Mark on Wednesday evening, shortly after the festivities ended, to catch a private jet back to London. But the travel is non-stop for the seven-months pregnant Duchess, who is today travelling with Prince Harry to Morocco for an official visit over the weekend.
