MERIDIAN TWP. — A local township manager and his wife recently wrote a $3,200 personal check to buy gas cards for all township employees.

Meridian Township Manager Frank Walsh and his wife Shar purchased 160 Okemos Marathon gift cards to provide one to every township staff member. Each certificate was $20, Walsh said in an email.

“We simply wanted to offer a small token of appreciation to our entire Meridian team,” he said. “The high cost of groceries and gas is having an effect on all of us. Our team works hard to serve our community.”

With soaring gas prices and potentially high rates through the end of 2022, $20 might not do much, but the gesture for staff brought Walsh and his wife great joy.

“I hope that our 160 team members know how much I care about them,” he said. “Our gift was a simple gesture to say, ‘thank you.’”
