Why next week's trial in suspected DUI case that killed a mom on Lebanon square is delayed

Trial proceedings have been rescheduled for the woman charged in the death of a young mother on Lebanon's town square.

Sandra Strickland, 72, is facing vehicular homicide, DUI, two counts of reckless endangerment and failure to stop at the scene of a crash involving an injury in connection with the April 2022 collision that killed Ashley Bailey, 27.

Strickland has pleaded not guilty.

The trial was previously scheduled to start on Monday.

A new motion filed in the case shortly before the trial that required additional litigation has forced the trial to be rescheduled, according to the district attorney's office.

New trial dates weren't immediately available.

Multiple weeks between mid-July to late-October were presented as possible dates. They will be determined at a later time, District Attorney General Jason Lawson said.

The next court hearing is scheduled on April 1.

A January hearing in the case contained raw police bodycam footage showing the aftermath of the crash almost two years ago.

Bailey’s 3-year-old son was in the car when the crash happened and was treated at a local hospital and released, Lebanon police said.

Bailey was a 2013 graduate of Central Magnet High School in Rutherford County. She played basketball growing up and had a love of horses and the outdoors, family members said.

A civil lawsuit in connection with the case alleges workers at the Lebanon Chili's Bar & Grill knowingly sold alcoholic drinks and allowed Strickland to leave the restaurant shortly before the crash occurred.
