Police arrest suspect in west Topeka burglary

UPDATE: Topeka Police responded to the 1800 block of Southwest McAlister Avenue and attempted to make contact with the suspect, but were unsuccessful, according to a press release from the Topeka Police Department (TPD). Police identified the suspect as a 22-year-old Topeka man who had a firearm and a felony warrant for his arrest.

TPD’s Response Team assisted officers on scene. The suspect eventually left the residence and police detained him without further incident. After an investigation, the man was taken to the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on the following charges:

  • Theft less than $1,500, more than $25,000 from building

  • Felony criminal damage to property

  • Interference with Law Enforcement Officer, Obstruction

  • Criminal Possession of a firearm by a felon

  • Theft more than $1,500 motor vehicle

TOPEKA (KSNT) – Officers with the Topeka Police Department (TPD) are gathered in a west Topeka neighborhood on Thursday in response to a burglary call.

Rosie Nichols with the City of Topeka said officers were called just after 10 a.m. on Feb. 15 to an address in the 1800 block of Southwest McAlister Avenue. This is in response to a reported burglary.

Shooting injury leads Topeka police to launch investigation

Police are still on scene as of 2:40 p.m. on Thursday. Nichols said the TPD’s Response Team is on the scene and there is currently no threat to the public. More information on this is expected to be released in the near future.
