From Town & Country

This morning, as members of the Queen's family arrived at Royal Ascot via carriage, a few faces were notably missing from the group. The Duchess of Sussex did not attend the horse race today, likely because she's still on maternity leave following the birth of her son Archie Harrison.

As royal correspondent Victoria Murphy reported for Town & Country earlier this year, Meghan's maternity leave is “likely to be longer” than three months, but the public could still see her a few times over the course of the summer.

For example, she made an appearance at Trooping the Colour earlier this month, a military parade which officially marks the Queen's birthday and serves as an important royal family event.

We will also see her later this summer at her son Archie's christening. According to royal reporter Roya Nikkhah of The Sunday Times, the christening is scheduled for next month in Windsor. Archie will be baptized in St. George's Chapel, where Harry and Meghan were married last year and where Harry himself was baptized in 1984.

Prince Harry also skipped today's events. He's been busy with public duties over the past few weeks, so it's reasonable to assume he just wanted a day off with his family.

Last year, the royal couple did attend opening day at the races, just a few weeks after their royal wedding. Meghan chose a white shirtdress for her Ascot debut, and paired it with a black and white hat, a look some were quick to point out resembled Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady.
