Why Rihanna Skipped the 2021 Emmys Despite Her Nomination

Rihanna may be more known for her music, but the Savage x Fenty founder got an Emmy nomination this year for her Savage X Fenty Show Vol. 2 show. The Amazon Prime special is up for Outstanding Choreography For Variety Or Reality Programming. Understandably, as it's a more minor category, Rihanna opted to skip the Los Angeles ceremony. She and A$AP Rocky were last photographed together on the opposite side of the country, hanging out in New York City.

Rihanna told Interview magazine in June 2019 that she didn't initially plan to have her career take off into more than just music. But as she spent more time in the industry, her ambitions expanded into her successful Fenty Beauty line and Savage x Fenty lingerie line.

“I had one dream and that was for my music to be heard all over the world,” she said of what she wanted when she first began her career. “I didn’t even think about the fame part, and then that came, and I was like, ‘Oh, shoot. Do I really want to do this?’ But the thing that keeps me alive and passionate is being creative. With every business outlet, I’m making something from a vision to a reality, and that’s the thing I really enjoy. Music had led me to these other outlets, and to things that I genuinely love. My mom pretty much worked in the beauty and perfume industry for a long time—she did makeup for people and was a makeup artist—so I always loved that.”
