Despite being nominated for her first-ever Grammy, Selena Gomez opted to skip tonight's Grammys ceremony in Las Vegas. Gomez was nominated for Best Latin Pop Album for Revelación.

Gomez's choice to skip the ceremony makes sense, given Best Latin Pop Album was announced during the preshow, and Gomez unfortunately didn't win. Fellow nominee Alex Cuba did for Mendó.

Prior to the ceremony, Gomez was last photographed in New York City, where the singer recently finished filming Only Murders in the Buildings, on Thursday. Gomez went to the Sloomoo Institute with her 8-year-old sister Gracie Teefey. Gomez also debuted her new bangs on her Instagram that day. “New hair who dis?” Gomez wrote.

Gomez's first Grammys nod is still significant. It comes one year after Gomez expressed her frustration not being taken seriously in the music industry in an interview with Vogue and suggested she could retire from music.

“It’s hard to keep doing music when people don’t necessarily take you seriously,” Gomez told the outlet. “I’ve had moments where I’ve been like, ‘What’s the point? Why do I keep doing this?’ ‘Lose You to Love Me’ I felt was the best song I’ve ever released, and for some people it still wasn’t enough. I think there are a lot of people who enjoy my music, and for that I’m so thankful, for that I keep going, but I think the next time I do an album it’ll be different. I want to give it one last try before I maybe retire music.” She added that she wants to spend more time producing and to “give myself a real shot at acting.”

Gomez later clarified to ELLE in its September 2021 issue that she wasn't really ending her music career. “I don’t think I’ll ever quit making music,” she said, adding that she does feel like she's still trying to prove herself. “I’m not saying I want a Grammy. I just feel like I’m doing the best I can, and it’s all about me. Sometimes, that can really get to me.” Music, unlike acting, is so personal, she added: “You’re pouring yourself out.”
