Why Steph is breaking up Warriors' season into three parts originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea

When exactly will Klay Thompson make his 2021-22 season debut?

That is one of the biggest questions facing the Warriors next season.

Does the uncertainty surrounding Klay's return date impact how Steph Curry is approaching things?

The two-time NBA MVP explained his perspective in a phone call with The Athletic's Marcus Thompson.

"Curry broke down the coming season into three parts," Thompson writes. "'The beginning of the year until Klay gets back,' followed by the period of reintegrating Klay, then he hopes a deep playoff run.

"While acknowledging that’s a difficult road, he said the Warriors have 'a really solid team' with a chance to take another step in the right direction."

Klay tore his right Achilles tendon Nov. 18 and underwent surgery Nov. 25.

So it's definitely possible that the three-time NBA champion does not debut until December -- or perhaps even later.

"I don't want to put any pressure on the date," general manager Bob Myers told the media last week. "It's not gonna be at the start of the season. It's not gonna be the first game."

The Warriors should be able to hold down the fort while Klay is out and win a good percentage of their games.

Curry -- who agreed to a four-year contract extension that runs through the 2025-26 season -- believes in what the front office is doing with the roster.

"The effort is there. Just being around the conversations that some people are privy to and most people are not -- we want to win," he told Thompson. "And if anybody was not with that, then we’ve got issues.

"And I don’t think I’d have signed up for five years of that. So that’s the vibe.”
