‘Why can’t we have anything nice?’ Fans react to Rupp Arena scrapping new basketball floor.

When news broke Thursday afternoon that the University of Kentucky will have to replace its brand new basketball floor after only one use by each of its men’s and women’s teams, Big Blue fans reacted quickly.

That reaction, by most, was first disbelief — followed by humor.

Twitter, now known as X, quickly flooded with jokes and memes making light of the uncomfortable news for UK and Rupp Arena, and especially for the company that installed the floor.

“It’s an unfortunate situation that we wish was not the case, because UK has been a great customer of ours forever,” John Ficks, Global Sales and Marketing Manager at Robbins Sports Surfaces, told Ben Roberts of the Herald-Leader. “We are going to change this out as fast as possible. Not sure how long that’s going to take right now. It’s all happened very fast.”

Rather than cry about the prospect of UK’s temporary return to its old — and oft-reviled floor — let’s laugh. A replacement floor is on its way.
