Police responded to a stretch of tracks near Secaucus Junction Wednesday, where a train had reportedly struck a pedestrian, halting train service between New York Penn Station and New Jersey amid afternoon rush hour.

But an hours-long search for the victim produced no evidence of the suspected collision, according to Amtrak, which maintains the cross-Hudson rail lines.

All lines running midtown direct were suspended as of 4:37 p.m., according to a Transit spokesperson. However, service resumed by 6 p.m., according to the agency's Twitter accounts.

NJ Transit said commuters can expect delays as long as an hour, down from nearly two-hour delays earlier.

During the disruption, commuter rail tickets were honored by NJ Transit bus lines, and at PATH stations in Newark, Hoboken and on 33rd Street in Manhattan.
