Why the world premiere of the Kyle Busch documentary will be in Nashville

Kyle Busch will spend some time at the movies when he arrives in town later this month for the 2022 Ally 400 NASCAR Cup Series race at Nashville Superspeedway.

Busch will roll into town on June 23, three days before the second annual race, for the world premier of the documentary "Rowdy" at Regal Opry Mills Theater.

The film which chronicles Bush's often-controversial racing career, will be in theaters nationwide starting June 29.

Busch will be joined at the premier by NASCAR host Jamie Little and several other notable personalities from the motorsports and local music scenes. There will be an after-party at Dierks Bentley Whiskey Row on Broadway.

With country music playing a big role in the film and the release coinciding with the Ally 400, organizers felt it made since to have the premier in Nashville.

“Given its significance to both the NASCAR and music worlds, we felt that Nashville would be the ideal location for this worldwide premiere,” producer Chance Wright said. “This promises to be a truly memorable week in Music City, in anticipation of the NASCAR race. We’re thrilled to be part of the celebration.”

Busch won the NASCAR Xfinity Series Tennessee Lottery 250 last year at Nashville Superspeedway the day before the Ally 400. He became the first driver to win 100 Xfinity Series races.

The Las Vegas native finished 11th in the Ally 400 after leading 10 laps.

Busch has more than 200 victories, including 60 in the Cup Series.

"Since I started racing at 13, I've focused on becoming the best driver I could possible be," Busch told Speedway Digest. "This film documents my journey, sacrifice and passion that led to winning races and, ultimately, championships. It also sets the record straight about controversial instances with perspectives from the people who were a part of those pivotal moments that changed me."

Along with Busch, the documentary features interviews with several of the top names in NASCAR, including Dale Earnhardt Jr., Jeff Gordon, Rick Hendrick and Joe Gibbs, along with Busch's brother and fellow NASCAR driver Kurt and his wife Samantha.

Busch earned the moniker “Rowdy” because of his no-holds-barred racing style. He is one of the most polarizing drivers in the sport.

The documentary focuses on the comeback Busch made after a near career-ending wreck in 2015 that came in an Xfinity Series race at Dayton International Speedway. The crash left him with physical limitations, depending on a walker and requiring extensive rehabilitation.

"Rowdy is an incredible comeback story of perseverance, grit, and overcoming improbable odds,” Wright said. “Peeling back the curtain shows the truth in athleticism in NASCAR and Kyle. Hardcore fans of NASCAR will get as much out of this as the person who has never seen a race.”
