A three-time All-Star and World Series champion is scheduled to pitch in Wichita on Tuesday night.

Adam Wainwright, a 41-year-old starting pitcher who has spent all of his 17-year MLB career with the St. Louis Cardinals, is slated to start on the bump for the Springfield Cardinals against the Wichita Wind Surge, if the weather holds, in Tuesday’s 7 p.m. game at Riverfront Stadium. Tickets are still available through the Wind Surge website.

Wainwright, who has won 195 games, is working his way back to full strength after a groin injury. He is slated to throw around 75 pitches in Wichita, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, in what will be his second rehab start in Double-A.

If things go off without a hitch in Wichita, Wainwright is expected to return to the Cardinals’ rotation in the majors soon. He has announced before this season that the 2023 season will be his final year in his illustrious career.

After losing last week’s series on the road at Tulsa, the Wichita Wind Surge (7-8) are looking to return to their winning ways at home with a six-game series against Springfield kicking off on Tuesday at Riverfront Stadium.
