A Wichita Falls man charged with manslaughter in connection with Cha'Quon Jeffrey's death in a head-on crash was free Tuesday from the Wichita County Law Enforcement Center, according to court documents and online jail records.

Brandon Michael Wright, 39, was booked into jail and released Tuesday on $150,000 in bonds, online jail records show.

Wright is also charged with aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury in connection with injuries sustained by Veronica Diaz, Jeffrey's front-seat passenger, in the June 3 crash, court records show.

Police believe Wright was under the influence of alcohol when he drove a black 2019 Honda Ridgeline the wrong way in the 3000 block of Spur 325, northbound, according to allegations in affidavits for arrest warrants.

Manslaughter and aggravated assault are second-degree felonies punishable by up to 20 years in prison.

Affidavits detailed law-enforcement officer's evidence for Wright's arrest and detention.

Jeffrey, 25, was driving a silver 2013 Chevy Malibu, that collided head-on about 12:15 a.m. June 3 with Wright's Ridgeline, according to allegations in affidavits.

Wright was driving the wrong way, going southwest in northeast traffic lanes when the Ridgeline struck the Malibu head-on, according to allegations in affidavits.

Jeffrey was killed on impact, and Diaz sustained serious injuries including a broken ankle, a broken elbow, fractured pelvis, broken ribs, a concussion, severe bruising to her stomach and a possible back injury, according to allegations in affidavits.

Jeffrey was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, according to a Wichita Falls police media release issued the day of the crash. Diaz was transported to United Regional Health Care System for treatment.

Wright was pinned inside the Ridgeline, but Wichita Falls firefighters removed him from the vehicle, according to the media release. He was also transported to URHCS for treatment.

AMR and emergency room staff members who treated Wright reported that his breath smelled of alcohol, leading them to believe he had consumed it, according to allegations.

Diaz posted Tuesday on Jeffrey's Facebook page that she was thankful to be alive after sustaining eight broken bones. But she misses her children and her boyfriend.

"I hope that man understands how much he changed our lives," Diaz said in the Facebook post.

A celebration of life for Jeffrey will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church with Dr. Robert Castle, pastor, officiating, according to Jeffrey's obituary.

Family and friends honored Jeffrey with a balloon release June 8 at the Hirschi Field House parking lot.
