Wichita Sky Kings attempting TBL attendance record with free game, celebrity appearances

The Wichita Sky Kings are attempting to set the attendance record in The Basketball League with the goal of attracting more than 6,000 fans to Koch Arena for Sunday’s 3 p.m. home game.

Team owner Ben Hamd is giving away general admission tickets for free with an array of professional basketball players available for free pictures and autographs following the game.

Among those slated to be in attendance is former Wichita State stars Ron Baker, Conner Frankamp and Shaquille Morris, former KU standouts Devonte Graham, Brandon Rush and Tyshawn Taylor, current NBA player Jose Alvarado of the New Orleans Pelicans and Outer Banks actor Chip Esten.

Doors open at 2 p.m. Sunday and the meet-and-greet following the game is scheduled to last for 2 hours and 30 minutes.

The Sky Kings are 18-7 this season and are currently in third place in the Central division standings of The Basketball League. The team has featured a handful of players who have been in the NBA G League.

“Our goal is a championship,” Sky Kings coach Sean Flynn said. “It’s our first year in the league and it would be pretty cool for the guys to pull this off in year one.”
