Wichita State basketball staff finds new director of operations in longtime Valpo coach

Paul Mills has found his director of operations for the Wichita State men’s basketball team and he comes with two decades of Division I coaching experience.

Luke Gore, who spent last season as the associate head coach at Valparaiso, has been hired as the director of operations by Mills at Wichita State, Gore told The Victory Bell podcast this past weekend.

Gore has spent the last 20 seasons on the staff at Valparaiso, working for three different head coaches. He has been the associate head coach on the staff at Valpo for the past six seasons under head coach Matt Lottich, who was fired in March.

“Coach Mills is an amazing individual and is extremely successful and really knows how to coach. He has an amazing staff and I’m friends with some of the guys on the staff,” Gore said on the Victory Bell podcast. “A dynamic new AD (Kevin Saal) just got hired. So I am going to try my best to make everyone better at Wichita State. I’m going to do my best so that every player knows I’m there for them, whether it’s a flat tire or it’s a question about defense. Whatever it is, whatever coach Mills needs, whatever any of the coaches need, that’s what I’m going to do.”

As director of basketball operations, Gore will assist with logistics for the team and oversee the daily operations of the program. During the season, he will manage the travel for the team and help the coaching staff stay coordinated with their schedules. It is possible as DOBO that Gore will also help WSU schedule its non-conference opponents, which has been typical at WSU for the past two decades.

Gore joins a staff that includes associate head coach Kenton Paulino, assistants Quincy Acy and Chris Hollender and staff members Iain Laymon and Xavier Holland, whose titles have not been announced yet.
