Wichita State names 2024 Gore Scholarship recipients

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Wichita State University has announced the recipients of the 2024 Harry Gore Memorial Scholarships.

The university says 544 students competed in the Distinguished Scholarship Invitational in November at Wichita State. To qualify for the invitational, students must have an ACT score of 27 or higher, a minimum of 3.5 GPA, and be in the top 10% of their class.

During the invitational, the students complete an application, write essays, and compete in an on-campus leadership competition. Thirteen students were selected from the group to return on Jan. 18 for interviews.

The winners are:

  • Karinton Newton, Summit Christian Academy, Lee Summit, Missouri

  • Karaline Scott, Goddard High School, Goddard, Kansas

  • Chloe Strecker, Eureka High School, Eureka, Missouri

Newton plans to study criminal justice as a pre-law student. Scott is majoring in applied engineering, focusing on sustainability and environmental engineering. Strecker is majoring in forensic science.

All three students will receive a $64,000 scholarship to attend Wichita State University starting in the 2024 Fall Semester.
